Our 1970's Ranch Home House Plans and Exterior Plans

They say they don’t sell a great many, because new-home-builders today want larger houses. This section of Retro and Mid Century house plans showcases a selection of home plans that have stood the test of time. Many home designers who are still actively designing new home plans today designed this group of homes back in the 1950's and 1960's. Because the old Ramblers and older Contemporary Style plans have once again become popular. FamilyHomePlans.com brings you this special collection of plans from The Garlinghouse Company.

I’m cutting up parts of different floor plans and laying them out to produce my ideal home. Much like porch alterations, replacement doors have the ability to change the way a house looks or is perceived. Unfortunately, most people just buy what they like and give little thought to maintaining the architectural integrity of the exterior when purchasing a new...

Characteristics That Describe This Ranch Style

We promise great service, solid and seasoned technical assistance, tremendous choice, and the best value in new home designs available anywhere. I know from the inside the office window would be off-center but that could be worked out with built-in shelving etc. and I think it would be worth the trade-off looking at the outside. It would organize the face of the house and pull the look together. I really like the version of upstairs with the window. Also like that the closets are in different places in the two rooms, which means that the rooms are different from each other, which I think is more interesting.

I see the laundry closet being more functional if you move the toilet into the bathroom space , and move the shower opening to the other side. Floor Tile– I already ordered a sample of this floor tile. I think I am going to do it in our bathroom. The ranch was developed for mid-twentieth-century America. This style was one of the most popular housing types built in the US.

Tranquility, a Home With a Wall of Windows

Then the laundry wall could move back into the WC space in the current proposal and you’d have more of a room for laundry and some extra storage. On the girls bath, have you thought about closing off the toilet room/ bath with a pocket door and doing a vanity all the way across? With the window there, closing the toilet room may give more privacy. We have window seats in every room…and they are never used.m Kids wish they didn’t have them as it’s affected room layout options. If you do go with them, ensure they are nice and wide, part of the problem with ours are they are too narrow.

Including the heretofore elusive original color. It would be so beautiful with some barn wood elements too! I know someone in Idaho if you need a source. I would do a dog bath in the garage for noah and keep the single toilet by the kitchen next to the side entry for guest so they do not have to use Finn’s bathroom and walk over the house.

Original Bay Window Paint Colors!

The wife had passed away 40 years before the husband, and although he had the means to update the house he didn’t want to change anything that his sweet wife had picked out. Loved that story, and we plan to honor the house, while making it the best way we can for our family. Print media, while not as influential as it was in decades past, remains a popular platform for the sale of house plans. When readers of Better Homes and Gardens magazine selected House Plan No. 3709-A as their favorite of those presented by the magazine in 1972, the... I can’t wait to follow along with the progress. I would rather have separate toilets and sink for each child but share the bath and shower.

Is there room upstairs for a kid only space, like a loft? I am always a fan of white homes and with the rock I do think it could work. I really like the idea of painting the windows a fun color, like you see int the rendering above.

A Customized Version of Radford’s Design No. 1509

As you last remember, the house was looking quite sad... Have you ever wondered why it is that popular opinion has long viewed old houses as creepy, scary and almost certainly "haunted"? Many will be quick to blame television -- or Hollywood in general -- but movies are only partly to blame. Simply titled Iowa Concrete Houses, this little gem of a... Work continues to progress at the Keys House project, even if somewhat sporadically. Finishes are being peeled back in some rooms, shedding more light on their original appearances.

We are building a window seat and a built-in desk on one side of the window and a bookcase on the other side. This home is in a really nice area, with a private community. We learned through our first home purchase to focus on location FIRST, we didn’t love the location. But, we were able to make money on it because it was a new area and we were one of the first to buy in.

In a presumed effort to facilitate the installation, all of the original stucco is being removed. Amazingly, the stucco had never been painted and featured a... Here's a look at what the process of nurturing the bay window looks like as it continues... The cornice of the bay had been wrapped in aluminum.

Built entirely from scrap or otherwise salvaged items, the structures there... It's been seemingly forever since I last posted; it has been a busy time. Modifications are largely confined to furnishings and decor; the... Work on the south side of the house is wrapping up; now the focus is on the northwest corner which has long been marred by a hideous 1970's carport. Both the carport and the concrete slab poured beneath it have contributed to water damage and other forms of...

Blue Windows– I don’t think it will work if we paint our home the darker color, but I really like the idea. This is more of a white-washed effect on the wood. Which I don’t think we will do, but fun to see. We have decided to leave the rock and not paint it . We do want to over-grout between the rocks .

We were able to raise the ceiling about a foot higher, you can tell if you look at the wood on the upper half. Since the stairs were moved to the entry, that entrance to the basement will be covered. Daybed– this is actually for our office, but looks cute here and might fit in that bay window. You can see how we opened up the entry to the family room, removed the tile, and added stairs. And we did take the walls completely down to the studs, it was the best way to see all the electrical going on inside the walls and get rid of all the thick wallpaper. When we remodeled our CT home our contractor gave us a bid on what his labor would be with the basics- wood, sheetrock and some finish work.

By the time we sold that first home, a lot more was starting to develop around it, making it desirable. (It still wasn’t a desirable location in our opinion). OBSERVATIONShighlights the lowlights of our built environment – and observes occasional architectural details which might otherwise be overlooked. The goal of finding a house to restore which was both architecturally and historically interesting has been simmering in the background for some time now. Life has a way of distracting us from our goals (most recently getting involved with the renovation of someone... We knew that the vinyl siding was hiding lots of problems, but didn't know just how bad the damage would be.

Although consisting of a single level, these homes are not restricted to a small size. Homes can come in three bedroom sizes for couples and retirees up to five bedrooms for larger families. Large windows and glass patio doors allow for natural light to enter the space and make it feel more airy and spacious. The layout of the home can be changed up to accommodate strangely-shaped lots.
